It is an ideal base from which to explore the castles and beaches of the Northumberland coastline. Bamburgh (with its imposing castle and long sandy beach) and Seahouses (with working harbour, shops, seasonal boat trips), are a short drive.

The Maltings has the bonus of an idyllic jetty cottage looking directly over the bay ideal for dining, a retreat or simply to watch the many unusual birds that visit Budle Bay. It can also be used as a secure storage for cycles/equipment.

There are many fabulous walks and cycle routes in the area. Alnwick Castle, gardens and Berwick, are both within a 20-minute drive. Golf, riding, sea fishing, water sports are all nearby. Easy access to A1 to explore further, with Newcastle and the Metro Centre are an hour's drive.
